The Thursday Club Wedding – Insider Tips

San Diego wedding insiders know The Thursday Club is one of San Diego’s hidden gems. Located in a quiet Point Loma neighborhood, the wedding venue feels exclusive and special.  To start, the sweeping Pacific Ocean views and the SUNSETS are ah-mazing! Your ceremony takes place in a lush garden with Spanish fountains, colorful blooms, and ocean breezes. Cocktail hour on the patio offers unequaled views of the ocean Thursday Club Weddingand San Diego sunsets. The reception is inside the historical building with floor-to-ceiling windows and original wood floors. The 90-year-old venue has loads of charm and detail as well as modern conveniences like air conditioning, market lights, and a cute bridal suite. The Thursday Club is one of our all-time favorite San Diego wedding venues.

If you select The Thursday Club for your wedding, you will want to note that tables and chairs are included in the venue rental. However, table linens and napkins are not – these will need to be rented from your caterer or a rental vendor. You can select any vendors you like for your Thursday Club wedding, except for caterers. The venue offers an ample list of approved caterers for you to use who can accommodate any style of meal you want. Parking is plentiful and free throughout the neighborhood. If you dream of a garden wedding with ocean views and historical charm, the Thursday Club is definitely the venue for you!

Nautical Catholic Military Wedding

I was in heaven when Benson and Jayne came to me for help planning their wedding. Both the bride and groom were in the military (Navy and Air Force) – my favorite groom’s attire is a uniform. They wanted a Catholic wedding at the Immaculata at University of San Diego – I am a USD alumna. And their reception was to be at the Bali Hai – which hosts my favorite San Diego skyline view!

The colors for the nautical themed wedding were blue and white. The bridal bouquet by FloralWorks and Events was simple and elegant with just the right amount of blue.JAYNE-BENSON-020The amazing Brett Butterstein Photography captured the day. This is one of my favorites of the bride leaving the hotel ready meet her groom!   JAYNE-BENSON-103

The Catholic ceremony was held at the Immaculata Parish at the University of San Diego. If you follow my blog, you know it is one of my favorite places on the planet, so I’ve included lots of photos for you.  JAYNE-BENSON-239 JAYNE-BENSON-240 JAYNE-BENSON-285 JAYNE-BENSON-365 JAYNE-BENSON-380After the ceremony, the couple headed to Harbor Island to board a sailboat to grab some alone time as husband and wife, and to make their grand entrance into the waterfront reception.  JAYNE-BENSON-472

JAYNE-BENSON-562The reception tables were decorated in blue and white with nautical details. The tables were named after places the couple had visited. Two different centerpieces were alternated between the tables featuring floating candles and submerged orchids. The adorable menus with sailing flags were created by Take Note! Fall Military Wedding at North Chapel and Admiral Kidd Club

I just loved Megan and Ben’s fairy tale love story. Megan flew across the country to meet Ben on a blind date and the rest is history. Their Fall wedding reflected the colors of the season and highlighted San Diego for their out-of-town guests.016010

The altar of the North Chapel was filled with candle light and the aisle was lined with rose petals and candles hanging from shepherd’s hooks. 087 094

191205The couple’s love of Fall colors was represented in the oranges, reds and yellows in the bridesmaid dresses, bouquets and centerpieces. 177The bride carried a gardenia bouquet that smelled heavenly and included a memory charm with her mother’s photo.320

The ceremony was followed by a traditional military sword arch welcoming the bride to the military.

241 252We were blessed with a picture-perfect evening at Admiral Kidd for an outdoor cocktail reception and dinner in the Harbor Lounge. 368 370 The reception room was decorated with gold uplights, manzanita trees with yellow orchids, and floating candles.421410 412 419413415

Military Inspired Wedding Photo Shoot

Salute to the Military themed wedding photo shoot in San Diego Style Weddings Magazine. Photo by Melissa McClure Photography, cake by Cute Cakes, Style & Coordination by Stephanie Rose Events

This military-inspired wedding photo shoot gets its style from the United States Marines dress blue uniform. It’s clean lines and patriotic colors let you know this couple is proud of their service while still expressing the bride’s personality with the fun feathers, gorgeous florals and dainty accents. The gold sequins and caramel macarons mimic the gold uniform buttons. And speaking of buttons, hundreds were donated by military families to use as decor for this very special table.

We shot this tablescape at the Unconditional Surrender statue at Tuna Harbor Park in San Diego. The cake, created by Cute Cakes, we just perfect for a military wedding! The buttons on the cake were all made of chocolate.

The sword used to cut the cake as well as the bride and groom cake topper were used in my parents military wedding nearly 50 years ago.

The bridal bouquet and all of the flowers were created by Flower by Coley. I loved how they incorporated the gold military buttons onto the bouquet.

The table was decorated with a crisp white linen topped with a navy and white striped runner. The chairs were covered with linens created by Thimbleana as a playful salute to the military uniforms.

Each place setting wore a gold sequined placemat, a gold charger plate, a dinner plate from a private US Navy collection and a navy blue napkin tied with a gold tassel and red rose.
