Vietnamese Garden Wedding Featured on Borrow & Blue and Brown Sparrow Wedding Blogs

One of our favorite weddings of the year was recently featured on two wedding blogs. Vi and Rick had a colorful multicultural wedding incorporating both Vietnamese and Mexican traditions. The couple selected the Japanese Friendship Garden for its gorgeous grounds, the colorful foliage and the spectacular ornate wooden gate that served as the ceremony backdrop. Catholic Weddings – Choosing a Reception Venue

San Diego has some of the most beautiful Catholic parishes in the country. Whether your wedding will be held at the ornate Immaculata on the University of San Diego campus, the historic Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala, or the gorgeous Our Lady of the Rosary, your ceremony is guaranteed to be picture perfect. Unfortunately most of the parishes do not have ample facilities to host a dinner wedding reception. You will need to select a different location than the church for your reception. JAYNE-BENSON-365

Most Catholic wedding couples assume they should select a reception location close to their church. If your reception immediately follows your ceremony, than it is much easier for your guests to travel to a close reception venue. In that case, it makes sense to select a reception venue within a few minutes drive of the church.

But what if you have a time gap of 4 or 5 hours or more between your Catholic wedding ceremony and your reception? If there is a significant amount of time between your wedding ceremony and your reception, you can select any venue you like for your reception. Some guests may elect to only attend the ceremony or the reception. We do recommend selecting a hotel for out of town guests that is close to the reception venue, regardless of where your ceremony venue is located.

Catholic Wedding Planning Tips:

Reuse your ceremony decor at your reception. Altar floral arrangements can be placed on either side of your sweetheart table and aisle decor can be reused as centerpieces or to accessorize your cake table.
Ask your florist to transport your flowers from the church to the reception venue after your ce
remony and church photos are complete.
Print the name and address of the reception venue on your ceremony programs or on small cards at the church exit so guests can easily find their next location.

Watercolor Wedding Photo Shoot

It all started with the shoes. I spied these glorious Kate Spade watercolor pumps and knew I had to use them in my next wedding inspiration photo shoot. A watercolor wedding has limitless possibilities for color and texture and movement. I decided to focus on watercolor as art and incorporated frames into the design. Flowers by Coley installed the centerpiece bridge that allowed us to hang several vintage frames that created a living art gallery at the table. cliftonphotography-12 cliftonphotography-47 cliftonphotography-43 cliftonphotography-22 cliftonphotography-74 Each place setting featured a white or gold frame with vintage white and blush plates. The perfect watercolor table linen was provided by La Tavola. Colorful menus also carried the watercolor theme.

The place card table held gorgeous framed flowers – truly a work of art! The place cards were painted with water colors and hung from paint brushes that topped champagne glasses. Garden Wedding at Cape Rey Carlsbad

This garden wedding at Cape Rey Carlsbad was filled with sweet little details. The bridal bouquet, boutonniere and centerpieces, created by Franco’s Flowers, all contained a mixture of seasonal blooms and succulents.

The ceremony aisle in the garden was lined with photos of the bride and groom in chronological order from childhood to adults to depict their journey to their wedding day. 170_0628_ejb 171_0629_ejb

The huppah was handmade by the groom’s brother and lovingly delivered from Colorado. The eucalyptus décor was the perfect addition. 198_0735_ejb 003_0922_ejb

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the patio overlooking a stunning San Diego sunset and ocean views. 253_1271_ejb

Guests’ seating cards were displayed in potted succulents adorned with Scrabble pieces, to signify the couple’s favorite game. 258_1266_ejb

Nautical Catholic Military Wedding

I was in heaven when Benson and Jayne came to me for help planning their wedding. Both the bride and groom were in the military (Navy and Air Force) – my favorite groom’s attire is a uniform. They wanted a Catholic wedding at the Immaculata at University of San Diego – I am a USD alumna. And their reception was to be at the Bali Hai – which hosts my favorite San Diego skyline view!

The colors for the nautical themed wedding were blue and white. The bridal bouquet by FloralWorks and Events was simple and elegant with just the right amount of blue. JAYNE-BENSON-020 The amazing Brett Butterstein Photography captured the day. This is one of my favorites of the bride leaving the hotel ready meet her groom!

The Catholic ceremony was held at the Immaculata Parish at the University of San Diego. If you follow my blog, you know it is one of my favorite places on the planet, so I’ve included lots of photos for you. After the ceremony, the couple headed to Harbor Island to board a sailboat to grab some alone time as husband and wife, and to make their grand entrance into the waterfront reception.

JAYNE-BENSON-549 They were greeted at the reception with a traditional military sword detail forming an arch for the couple to walk through. The reception tables were decorated in blue and white with nautical details. The tables were named after places the couple had visited. Two different centerpieces were alternated between the tables featuring floating candles and submerged orchids. The adorable menus with sailing flags were created by Take Note! Creations.

As the sun fell, blue uplights added a cool glow to the venue. The guests danced well into the night and enjoyed the gorgeous San Diego skyline.

Bali Hai Tropical Wedding – Part 2

You met Jacqueline and Ann in our previous post. This amazing couple called us for help planning their tropical San Diego wedding from Los Angeles. They wanted to incorporate everything they love into their special day – so we found a way to include their fur babies as well as Muppets. The result was a playful wedding filled with personality and lots of joy!

The flowers by Flowers of Point Loma established the purple and white tropical color theme.

"Jax and Ann" Every guest received a pair of sunglasses to wear during the ceremony. The favor tag featured the Muppet drummer, Animal, and announced to the guests that this would be a party like no other. Hawaiian music by Desi Relator set the mood for the ceremony.

The reception featured more of the gorgeous tropical florals and purple accents.

Of course, the Muppets made several appearances. After dinner, the guests danced for hours to music played by Hollywood’s go-to DJ, Michelle Pesce.Congratulations ladies! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Tropical Wedding at Bali Hai

I am so blessed to have met Jacqueline and Ann. The couple was planning a San Diego wedding from Los Angeles and needed a local planner to help with the details. They had done a great job of selecting vendors to create a tropical paradise for their wedding. What I love most about this couple – besides their big personalities and love of laughter – is that they were concerned not so much with the look of the wedding, but about ensuring the wedding reflected their lives and their love for each other. By incorporating their three fur babies and their love of everything Muppets, this wedding could belong to no other couple than Jax and Ann. The perfect day was captured by Boffo Video.
