Vietnamese Garden Wedding Featured on Borrow & Blue and Brown Sparrow Wedding Blogs

One of our favorite weddings of the year was recently featured on two wedding blogs. Vi and Rick had a colorful multicultural wedding incorporating both Vietnamese and Mexican traditions. The couple selected the Japanese Friendship Garden for its gorgeous grounds, the colorful foliage and the spectacular ornate wooden gate that served as the ceremony backdrop. The bride wore a traditional red ao dai for the ceremony and then changed into the perfect ivory draped neckline gown. See all the colorful details here and hereNguyen_Calvos_photo.

Watercolor Wedding Photo Shoot

It all started with the shoes. I spied these glorious Kate Spade watercolor pumps and knew I had to use them in my next wedding inspiration photo shoot. A watercolor wedding has limitless possibilities for color and texture and movement. I decided to focus on watercolor as art and incorporated frames into the design. Flowers by Coley installed the centerpiece bridge that allowed us to hang several vintage frames that created a living art gallery at the table. cliftonphotography-12cliftonphotography-47cliftonphotography-43cliftonphotography-22cliftonphotography-74Each place setting featured a white or gold frame with vintage white and blush plates. The perfect watercolor  table linen was provided by La Tavola. Colorful menus also carried the watercolor theme.

The place card table held gorgeous framed flowers – truly a work of art! The place cards were painted with water colors and hung from paint brushes that topped champagne glasses. To keep with the watercolor theme, each champagne glass was topped with a colorful swirl of cotton candy.cliftonphotography-90cliftonphotography-95

Bright Family-Friendly Wedding at Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Kathryn and Rob on a family friendly destination wedding. Living in Chicago, the couple wanted to bring their 5 children to Southern California for an intimate wedding ceremony in front of close family and friends. Their request was to make the event child-friendly and “non-weddingy”. The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel was the perfect venue for a combination family vacation and wedding ceremony. We were blessed with a gorgeous autumn day that showcased the sweeping ocean views. The flowers, by Isari Flower Studio, were colorful and bright and featured elements true to our California themed wedding with sea shells, coral and sea stars. The couple’s children were adorable and served as flower girls and ring bearers. The girls carried candy pomanders made from Dum-Dum lollipops, while the boys wore pinwheel boutonnieres with their own candy centers.

I do! …and then they rode the Roller Coaster!

Steph and Paul claim they have more fun than anyone. And their April wedding in San Diego proved just that! The day started with a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony at the historic Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala. It was a special location, as the bride’s parents were married in the same church 35 years earlier.

All of the personal flowers, bouquets and boutonnieres, were created by the bride’s talented aunt. Steph selected succulents for their cool colors and textures and as a green alternative to cut flowers. All of the bouquets have since been planted in the yards of family and friends as a remembrance of the special day.

The photos, captured by Heather Elise of Heather Elise Photography were stunning and really captured the joy and love present that day.

Once the ceremony was complete, the entire wedding party took to Mission Beach to ride the iconic Giant Dipper Roller Coaster!

Next, the couple had a special Ceremony of Love on the private beach at the Bahia Hotel. This ceremony celebrated wedding customs from around the world, as Steph and Paul have travelled extensively and lived internationally. Travel-themed decor greeted the 170 guests who had travelled from across the world to celebrate with them.

A custom petal drop was created so the rose petals were released for the couple’s first kiss.

After the beach ceremony, the guests were treated to a party on board the William D. Evans sternwheeler. Each dinner table was named for a country the couple had visited and included framed wedding customs from that country. Bottles of wine or beer from the countries held postcard sized flags to indicate the table name.bahia%20wedding%20photography-35-L[1]

The cake was covered with passport stamps to continue the travel theme. The knife used to cut the cake was a family heirloom and the lace tablecloth on the cake table belonged to the bride’s grandmother.

The guestbook was a quilt lovingly created by the bride’s mother.

The guests danced for hours to the music played by San Diego DJ & Video. Truly a fun day filled with family and friends. Congratulations to Steph and Paul!

Rancho Santa Fe Wedding at The Crosby Club

Meghan and Clint were married at a sunset ceremony at The Crosby Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The bride selected romantic blush colors to compliment the watermelon colored bridesmaid dresses.

The ceremony was decorated with delicate baby’s breath – it was hung in the ivy above the ceremony, featured in vases on either side of the ceremony and in dainty glass jars hung from shepherds hooks lining the aisle.

The cocktail hour was held in the clubhouse courtyard. Willow branches, flowers and candles created a rustic backdrop for the guest book and escort card tables.

The reception was inside the ballroom glowing with candle light and amber uplights. A dirt bike groom’s cake surprised the groom! Tables were dressed with two different centerpieces – one featured lanterns and blush flowers and the other had the same flowers on drift wood branches.

Exquisitely Beautiful Wedding in Del Mar

Seeing this April wedding come together was pure joy. The couple envisioned a sophisticated, romantic and exquisitely beautiful wedding. I think Adorations Botanical Artistry, Concepts Event Design and Thomas Bui worked magic to transform a lovely backyard into a truly stunning wedding venue. The bride walked down the candlelit aisle framed by trees swaying with strands of orchids and crystals and floral chandeliers.walkway at night    ceremony tree detail

A silver and white afternoon reception was held at The Grand Del Mar with a wonderful variety of seating options for the guests – from cocktail tables and belly bars to pearl leather conversation areas.

Decorating with Pinwheels

When a bride asked for a fun, child-friendly, casual and colorful wedding, my first thought was pinwheels! The pinwheels of our childhoods have become sophisticated and can be used to bring fun and whimsy to any event. Plus, they are easy to make, inexpensive, and can fit any decor.

To make a pinwheel, you will need to start with a square piece of paper. For aisle decor, I use 12″x12″ double-sided scrapbook paper. At each corner, cut towards the center of the paper stopping about an inch from the center. Then, using a glue gun, secure every other corner to the center of the paper.

Once your 4 corners are secure, you can either use the pinwheel as a single pinwheel, or make smaller pinwheels and glue them into the center of the large pinwheel for a more detailed effect. If you don’t want the pinwheel to spin, you can glue the pinwheel onto a dowel. If you want the pinwheel to spin, secure the pinwheel to a dowel by using a pin or nail. Then you can finish the pinwheel by gluing a decorative piece into the center of the pinwheel or wrapping the dowel with ribbon. (It’s actually easier to wrap the dowel first and then attach the pinwheel).

I am thinking of using Christmas paper to make pinwheel ornaments for our tree this year, or even to use as gift tags.

Here are some pinwheels I am using for an upcoming wedding:

Pinwheel Boutonnieres for Ring Bearers
Pinwheel in baseball, grass, camouflage and popcorn paper for boys
